Pilates and Yoga

Pilates is a body conditioning routine that helps build flexibility and long, lean muscles, strength and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing to relieve stress and allow adequate oxygen flow to muscles, developing a strong core or centre (tones abdominals while strengthening the back), and improving coordination and balance.

Pilates’ flexible system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginning to advanced. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises. No muscle group is under or over trained. It enhances core strength and brings increased reach, flexibility, sure-footedness and agility and allows you to build the deeper postural muscles to maintain good posture. Muscle strength can then be built once good movement patterns are maintained.

At WPPC we offer Pilates personal training whole body workouts. Get to know your body well and what exercise suits you best.

All our Pilates Instructors are trained under Alan Herdman, who brought Pilates to England.

Technically, menopause lasts only 24 hours—it’s the day 12 months after your final period, Brizendine says. But the transition leading up to that significant day can last 10 years. The perimenopause passage usually happens sometime between the ages of 42 and 55, when you go from normal menses to none at all. During this stage, you experience an erratic cycling of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone that can lead to insomnia, hot flashes, fatigue, PMS, depression, irritability, anxiety, and low libido. “You’d gotten used to your menstrual cycle, and all of a sudden your hormone chemistry changes dramatically,” Brizendine explains.

WPPC offers yoga classes which consist of:Pranayama [ alternate nostril breathing]

Vinyasa flow with guided meditation

Restorative flow

Short meditation to end.
