1.15 -2.15 PM Tuesday June 2, 2015

NATALIA TRAXEL, WPPC NUTRITIONIST AND QUALIFIED DOCTOR,WHO ALSO TEACHES AT THE RAYMOND BLANC COOKERY SCHOOL, WILL PRESENT A TALK ON THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: Menopause and Osteoporosis

In this lecture Natalia Traxel will explain the importance of good nutrition for the Menopause and to help prevent Osteoporosis and how you can help your body and your mind.

The transition to Menopause, the process when the ovaries stop releasing eggs and you stop having periods, is usually gradual and can last for several years. Most of the factors that accompany menopause are temporary, but they can be harmful for a woman’s health or have adverse effects on everyday life.

Doctors have known for years that a woman’s risk of developing heart disease rises after menopause, but they weren’t exactly sure why.

A new study shows that menopause, not the natural ageing process, is responsible for a sharp increase in cholesterol levels.

Cutting intake of processed carbohydrates while increasing intake of protein and healthy fats such as omega-3s can lower blood triglyceride and “bad” LDL cholesterol levels, which can reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, can help, according to the Harvard School of Public Health.

Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens bones, increasing the risk of sudden and unexpected fractures. Meaning “porous bone,” it results in an increased loss of bone mass and strength.

Adequate calcium and vitamin D intake is necessary to attain and maintain normal bone quantity and quality.

COST £30 AT THE WESTMINSTER PHYSIOTHERAPY AND PILATES CENTRE, 1.15 -2.15 PM Tuesday June 2, 2015. TO BOOK, CALL ON 0207 834 3700. PLACES LIMITED. IF UNABLE TO ATTEND, 24 HOURS NOTICE NEEDS TO BE GIVEN

HEALTHY NUTRITION TALK    May 1st 12-1pm

Do you really know what food labels – from “Low GI” to “Low Fat” – really mean? Just how does a high sugar diet affect you? What’s the best food for body and mind and how does it affect stress and cravings? Do diets work? The talented Raymond Blanc Cookery School’s nutritionist Natalia Traxel gives all the answers on good nutrition Friday May 1st at 12:00pm- 1pm.

HEALTHY NUTRITION AND THE MENAPAUSE   May 1st 1.15-2.15pm

Menapause is when the ovaries stop releasing eggs and you stop having periods. A woman officially enters menapuse on the 365th day of her last period. However, the transition to menapause is usually gradual and can last for several years. Most of the factors that accompany the menapause are temporary, but they could be very harmful for a woman’s health or have adverse effects on everyday life.

A lecture on Friday May 1st at 1.15-2.15pm will be given by Natalia Traxel, our resident nutritionist, on why this change happens and how you can help your body and your mind through good nutrition.

2014 – Age no barrier to exercise in celebration of Older People’s Day

From downward dogs to sun salutations and nutritional food, people aged up to 80 joined in a celebration in advance of this Wednesday’s Older People’s Day. “With people living longer, it’s so important to keep your muscles and joints flexible – and age is certainly no excuse,” explains Clare Fone MCSP, who owns The Westminster Physiotherapy and Pilates Centre in Victoria, SW1, and teaches the Seniors Wellbeing Exercise class at Victoria Medical Centre. “As the saying goes, you’re only as young as your spine is supple.”

Part funded by Tachbrook Ward of Westminster City Council, the energetic class was followed by a nutritional food talk and demonstration given by Tom Green, general manager of Leon, the healthy fast food chain that provides sumptuous, healthy food to those on the go.
